According to Apple Insider, the configuration pages for the Mac Pro, Macbook Pro, Macbook and Macbook Air have been updated with information about the upcoming 27-inch Cinema Display. Unfortunately though, they are still unavailable for purchase. The new 27-inch Cinema Display sports a 2560 x 1440 resolution with an ambient light sensor and the same in-plane switching technology that the iMac, iPhone 4 and iPad use.
While the new display was announced over the summer, it stated that it wouldn’t be shipping until September. But guess what? It’s September now! Once the new display is available it will be the only Apple display being sold at this time. Apple announced plans to stop selling the 24 and 30 inch Cinema Displays as soon as supplies run out. The 27-inch Cinema Display will retail for $999.
I have had my 30″ Cinema Display since November and I love it, but if there was one thing I wish this display had, it would be a glossy screen. I’m not a big fan of matte screens, but it was the best available at the time so I went for it. Would I consider an “upgrade” to the new the 27″ LED Cinema Display? I’m not sure at this point, but it isn’t out the realm of possibility. What do you think? Would you sacrifice the 3″ for a similar resolution and newer technology? Leave a comment!
