Post image for New MacBook Air Experiencing Problems?

It appears that there is a rising number of complaints from users who purchased the new MacBook Air with regard to kernel panics, video problems, and other issues that could be related to defective logic boards.  On Apple’s discussion boards there have been several posts about issues with both the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air models.

Apple Discussion forum user, DanRyb, basically stated that his 11-inch model would randomly display “weird colors in vertical lines” extending across the entire screen and the machine would freeze. He was forced to power cycle the computer in order to recover.

Another forum user, Hobokendippy, reported that his 13-inch model had crashed three times twice with a blank screen and once with the screen distortion reported by DanRyb.

Post image for Amazon Releases Windowshop iPad App

Amazon just released a brand new free iPad app called Amazon Windowshop.  The app which is optimized specifically for the iPad to make browsing through the online store easier is very similar to Amazon’s website.  It includes several categories to browse through such as, “Featured”, “Bestsellers”, “Recommendations”, “New Releases”, and “Movers & Shakers”.

Windowshop displays products through a grid-like interface, but also includes pop-outs of specific products with high-resolution images, user reviews, descriptions and videos related to that product (which includes 30 second samples for the music items).

Post image for White iPhone 4 Available (Soon?)

This morning Apple updated their Apple Store app for the first time. And guess what? Version 1.1 has a little surprise. That’s right, in the ‘Reserve Products’ screen, the much anticipated white iPhone 4 is supposedly available (sort of).  It appears on the list of available iPhone’s to reserve, however, when you try and select the white iPhone 4 option, it doesn’t actually work.

It’s still unclear whether this is just a glitch in Apple’s system or if they plan to make it available soon.  Either way, it’s clear Apple hasn’t completely forgotten about the white model of the iPhone 4.  We’ll have to wait and see if this becomes a reality.  Until then, there’s always the black model.

Post image for White iPhone Delays Explained

According to a report by Pocket-Lint, there was a white iPhone spotting in New York City.  A white iPhone 4 in the wild, you ask?  Yep.  It also appears that there are boxes of them over at Apple HQ in Cupertino.  So why haven’t they been released to the public?

As reported in the article by Pocket-Lint, the man spotted with the white iPhone has close ties at Apple and according to him, the delay is because the home button does not correctly match the rest of white casing around the device.  Which would make sense and go along with the other design defect rumors.

Post image for Apple’s Stock Price Opens Above $300

For the first time in Apple’s history, their stock price has opened above $300 per share.  Apple’s stock (AAPL) has risen 25% since late August and 42% since the beginning of the year.  Apple has also surpassed both Wal-Mart and Microsoft with regard to market capitalization becoming the second largest company in the United States.  Only behind Energy giant, Exxon Mobil, who is also doing very well as of late.

Apple has expanded its lead over Microsoft in market capitalization to nearly $50 billion as of today.  Apple is also expected to announce their June-September earnings on Monday.  Analysts are predicting revenue in the $20 billion range, which would surpass (for the first time in 15 years) Microsoft’s revenue.

October 20th, 2010 at 10AM Pacific Time.  Mark your calendars for an Apple event.  But this event is a bit different than the ones we have seen as of late.  Back to the basics (or the Mac) we go.

Apple wants to talk about “what’s new for the Mac,” which could mean some new/updated hardware — but I’m betting they definitely want to discuss software too.  See that lion hiding behind the event logo?  It appears Apple is preparing to announce the next version of OS X.  Perhaps named Lion?  We’ll find out.

Post image for iTunes Improves Ping Integration. Now Works Within Your Music Library.

The latest update of iTunes 10 was released earlier today.  The update (iTunes 10.0.1) included many bug fixes, but most importantly, it improved the integration of Ping within iTunes.  While this may be considered a small incremental update, it has huge implications and shows that Apple is in fact serious about Ping.

As you may remember, Ping was announced back on September 1st during Apple’s press event.  It gathered quite a bit of discussion around the web, but quickly faded into the distance even with the 160 million potential Ping users.  The problem with Ping was that it was too cumbersome.  It also took too much effort to do the things you wanted to do; such as share or like a song or album.  But that is no longer the case.
